Freie Universität Berlin, Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna , The University of Edinburgh, Uniwersytet Jagielloński in Kraków, KU Leuven, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Université Paris 1 Panthéon – Sorbonne have come together as UNA Europa, a unique alliance of leading European research universities.
UNA Europa combines a strong historical legacy and sense of heritage with a broad, rich and divers European cultural and intellectual history.
All UNA Europa institutions are guided by the principles of interdisciplinary, innovation, high quality education and research, as well as intensive engagement with society. While continually engaging on a European and international level, they are firmly anchored in their local and regional socio-economic habitat.
UNA Europa is committed to the advancement of fundamental European values
such as respect for cultural and linguistic diversity, democracy, equality and non-discrimination, equality of women and men, freedom, human dignity and human rights, justice, pluralism, the rule of law, tolerance and solidarity.
From this commitment, UNA Europa aims to create a truly European inter-university environment, where excellent research is continuously linked to transnational, problem-oriented learning and innovative, critical thinking. Within this inter-university environment, new strategies for sustainable and long-term cooperation are being developed and implemented.
Forming a transnational laboratory that is based on exchange of best practices, UNA Europa will lead to technological, cultural and social innovation. It will engage with actors from all strands of society by connecting research, education and knowledge transfer and thus create impact on the local, regional, national and European level.
Embracing the cultural and linguistic diversity of its members, UNA Europa will work towards a truly inclusive European University. By implementing a new form of close multilateral cooperation as well as introducing common European curricula, UNA Europa members intend to change the way future generations look at European values and act as European citizens.
